‘From Ages to Ages’ is an opera I’ve been working on for twenty years. I’m performing a reworked, solo version at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2018.
It’s an illustrated lecture, with music, about the life and work of Welsh writer Arthur Machen.
The original piece lasted for about 70 minutes, was devised for two performers, a lecturer, and Arthur himself. The reworked version (‘A Robinson Crusoe of the Soul’) is cut to 45 minutes, and is just me playing both parts as well as triggering a variety of sound sources.
I’ve written a blog about Machen’s best known work ‘The Hill of Dreams’ here.
